About Summiteer

~Stang Top~

14th August 2011

A late start as we waited for the weather to pick up. We were going to head for Wycoller, but it was the Trawden Show and roads in that area were very busy.

Lower Black Moss

Pendle Hill from Lower Black Moss Reservoir

We parked in Barley and made our way to the Black Moss Reservoirs.

Upper Black Moss

Upper Black Moss Reservoir

The car park in Barley was full, so I went looking for a route that would be not too busy.

Stang Top

Road to Stang Top

Ordinarilly, we would have walked across the fields (right), but it looked rather boggy, so chose the tarmac route to get to Stang Top.

The trig column is not quite at the highest point, but never mind. It's top enough for me.

Barley

Path to Whitehough

Simple route back to Whitehough which then leads directly to Barley.

Barley Cottages

Cottages

Attractive cottages close to Barley. You could tell how close we were by the amount of ice cream on walkers' cornets as they wandered past.

The Cabin at Barley

The Cabin

Coffee and a biscuit at The Cabin.

Walkers: Karen and Me

Time taken: 1hr 20mins over a distance of about 3.5 miles.

Route: Barley, Black Moss Reservoirs, Stang Top Road and Moor, Whitehough, Barley.

Weather and conditions: Increasing sunshine and a gentle breeze.

Greetings Count: Barley is a very popular centre on fine weekend afternoons. We saw quite a few others on our route, but I imagine they were queueing up on Pendle Hill.

Richard's Refreshment Review: The Cabin offers a good daytime menu, cooked meals draw to a close at 3pm.
